Rooming Isn't Always Easy

‘Tao, Tao! Come sit over here, I saved you a seat.’ Luhan, Tao’s best friend, called over to him, waving his arm in the air whilst a cute smile played with his lips. The ebony haired teen gave his own small smile back before making his way over to the small table his friend was eating lunch at, perching himself down on a chair, Tao pulled out an apple from his rucksack and began nibbling on it. ‘So how’re you finding college so far? Made any friends yet? Checked any girls out? Don’t forget about me though!’ Luhan pouted cutely, making the younger male smile again.

‘Nae hyung, of course I won’t forget about you, how can I forget about the cutest guy I know?’ Tao laughed gently, causing the amber haired male to blush softly, ‘I haven’t made any friends though, I guess I’m just still too shy…’ the younger mumbled into the crimson apple’s flesh, causing his best friend to frown before grinning once more and patting the younger on the back.

‘Don’t worry about it, Panda, no one will be able to resist-’ Luhan’s words trailed off, making Tao raise his head and stare at him in confusion. Just then the sound of girl’s, and quite possibly guy’s, screaming rang in the young male’s ears, forcing him to raise his palms to his poor head in an attempt to block out the atrocious roar. Tao was surprised to see his friend still floundering around and not covering his own ears, but instead staring past his shoulder and in the direction of the chaos.

‘Luhan, hey Luhan.’ Tao shouted, daring to pull a hand away from his ear and tug on his friend’s shoulder, ‘What are you staring at?’ Little did the Panda know that the two hottest guys in college were making their way right over to their table, Luhan watched as his favourite, Kai, raised his head with a sneer on his lips, most likely from the annoying screaming, and darted his chilling glare around, effectively silencing the dining hall for good.

‘Stupid kids, give me a headache every damn time…’ Kai hissed, rubbing his now throbbing temples, ‘Ah, Luhan,’ Kai smirked, scraping a chair across the laminate flooring and straddling it right in front of the older male, ‘something interesting you’re staring at?’ Tao watched in amazement as his usually bubbling best friend fumbled around like a blind man for a few simple words, how hard could it be to say a plain answer? ‘Cat’s got your tongue yet again I see.’ Kai chuckled, stunning Luhan as he reached a hand out to palm his soft and blazing cheek, Tao just continued to watch, absolutely amazed at how a single person he’d never met before could have such an effect on his favourite hyung, the person looking not even a day older than himself in fact but with a powerful aura of his own somehow, Tao could sense it without being in the stranger’s company for even a minute.

‘Who’s this?’ another voice sounded just behind Kai, Tao looked up only to remember that two men had walked over, both nearly being the opposites of each other in looks. The Panda noticed how the one who was still smirking at his friend had darker hair and wore darker clothing, shades of rich blues and deep blacks whilst the person Tao assumed to be his friend wore paler colours, ones of white and grey and his hair was an amber colour, just like Luhan’s. Another thing the younger male did notice was how this male seemed to compliment the other, as if the two were made in a pair by divine hands and it was no wonder Luhan was having problems formulating a single sentence for the boy who continued to snicker at him.  But the Panda somehow managed to.

‘Tao…’ a short cough, ‘My name is Tao, i-it’s nice to meet you-’

‘Kris.’

‘Your name is Kris…?’

‘Got a problem with it? Jesus, when is everyone going to realise I just don’t go using my real name when I’m trying to be on friendly terms because it’s not as fun to say, or it’s not as cool?’ The older complained, rolling his eyes to the heavens in the process and causing Tao to regret how badly he worded his question, for he had simply just wanted to double check with the man that his name was indeed Kris.

‘Now now Kris, don’t be mean in front of the new kid.’ Kai laughed, causing Luhan’s cheeks to heat slightly at just the sound alone, ‘Awww, such a cutie!’ the dark haired male laughed soundly, forcing Luhan to hide his embarrassed face and stare at the floor. ‘Seriously Luhan, we’ve known each other for how long now? Just go out with me already.’ The younger teased. Tao watched as his friend’s eyes darted around the floor as if trying to find an escape, but, from the looks of it, he came up short.

‘Ugh, get a room damn it, I’m sick of seeing you toy with him and not do anything with it even though you know you’ve obviously got him putty in your hands, Kai.’ Kris retorted, looking anywhere but at the boy who watched him dumbfounded. Dumbfounded by how well Kris was able to cover up the sincerity behind his words, but just not well enough for Tao not to notice. The fact Kris even showed this side intrigued the younger, darker haired male and naturally, made him wish to know said person further.

‘Tao?’ the Panda immediately shot his head back around, literally peeling his eyes away from Kris to find his best friend, tinted cheeks and leaning as far into his chair and away from Kai as possible, looking at him. ‘Since it’s your first day and you only have half a day because of it, isn’t your day p-pretty much over?’ Luhan asked pleadingly, eyes sneaking in the direction of the open double doors that lead out of the still bustling cafeteria.

‘Oh, yeah actually.’ The younger remembered, rubbing the back of his head in a cute subconscious manner, ‘I kind of totally forgot about that, whoops.’ He laughed, daring to sneak a peek at the older boy once more to see if there was some reaction, none, none what so ever, only the same rolling of his dark eyes.

‘You haven’t even sorted out who you’re rooming with yet, have you?’ Kai suddenly asked Tao, craning his head around with, what seemed to the Panda, much effort as he dragged his view away from his prey.

‘Well no, I was told to see the head teacher after lunch was over to find out the arrangements.’ Tao defended, his cheeks tinting slightly with embarrassment.

‘Leave him alone, he’ll probably get roomed with a total ass.’ Kris laughed, smoothing out the sleeve of his woollen jumper before locking gazes with Tao. ‘Hm, and I’d lay off the jealousy vibe crap with this guy, Kai. He’s no threat to your crush on Luhan-ah, leave them both be and let’s go. Lunch will be over soon and I want to get to class without any scratches this time. Crazy fans, yah, just because we’re so damned handsome…’ the muttering male stalked off, a winking Kai behind him.

‘Who does he think he is?’ Tao questioned, staring incredulously into the back of Kris as he and his own best friend manoeuvred themselves away from the crowd and into safety.

‘J-Just leave it, come on, I have to take you to headmaster Kibum, he’s not a very patient guy…’ Luhan mumbled, grabbing hold of Tao and his own belongings and quickly dragging him along, Tao sighed and followed his friend as he lead him through various corridors until they finally reached a large oaken door. Luhan raised his petite hand to sound his knuckle against the door when muffled voices reached his and the Panda’s ears.

‘You’ve got to be kidding!’

‘Mr Wu, would you please calm down.’ An older voice sounded, one of struggling authority.

‘No way! I’m already rooming with Kai, why do we have to switch now?’ Kris continued to complain whilst the two other males inched closer to the door, intrigued to what all the fuss was about.

‘And you know very well there is always a roommate change, it lets the people at this college get to know each other better, what on earth is the problem with it suddenly? You’ve been doing it ever since you started here, Kris.’ The headmaster sighed, already wishing the day was over.

‘You know you two are eavesdropping right?’ a slick voice sounded behind Tao and Luhan, making Tao jump and Luhan to blush at recognition of the voice, ‘Hm, never had you pinned as a bad boy, Luhannie.’ Kai chuckled, arms folded over his chest as he leant against a wall behind the pair.

‘I don’t want to room with him!’ an outraged yell from Kris brought all three back to strict attention, three pairs of heads snapping around to look at the old door which withheld the yells of annoyance.

‘And I really don’t care, there’s nothing wrong with him, good student, no bad records and he seems nice. Give it a go, araso? Now out before I have you expelled.’

‘That’d be heaven right now!’ Kris all but screamed before swinging open the door in front of the trio and slamming it so hard behind him Kai felt the wall he was leaning on shake. ‘Oh great, it’s you.’ Kris sneered, attention focused on a blinking and confused Tao, Kris stalked closer to him, forcing the younger to back into the wall firmly. ‘Well, buddy.’ The amber haired male began, palm slamming in collision with the wall beside Tao’s head, ‘Looks like we’re roomies, isn’t that just great.’ Kris growled, held tilting to the side menacingly as his eyes bored into Tao’s frightened ones, the only thing the younger could do was helplessly stare at his captivator and hope for the best. ‘Aish, you better not get on my bad side.’ Kris warned, already making his way down the hallway, hands slung into pockets without even sparing a glance over his shoulder, ‘Or I’ll eat you, alive.’
